Level of difficulty: Level to steep dirt/gravel trail (portions are
mucky in rainy season). Clues easy. Easier if you study a trails
map of the park that you can find at the info kiosk near the gardens
as you first enter the park.
Setting: Pt Defiance Parkthe greatest park in all of Puget Sound,
covering 698 acres and 18,500 feet of shoreline. It is the second
largest metropolitan park in the country, second only to Central
Park in New York City!
Highlights: Offers incredible views of Puget Sound, Gig Harbor,
several islands and Tacoma Narrows. The park contains a zoo,
aquarium, botanical gardens, numerous hiking trails, a logging
museum, Ft Nisqually historical restoration, Never Never Land,
playgrounds and much, much more!!!
Facilities: Picnic tables, restrooms. Open from dawn-dusk. Parts of
the park are closed to vehicles on Saturday mornings.
Restrictions: Leash and scoop laws in effect for pets.
Length of trek: It all depends on how far you want to go. From the
mountain of a tree, it is approx mile roundtrip.
Directions: Take I-5 to Exit 132 and head West on Hwy 16. Carefully
follow the brown signs to Pt Defiance Park.
